This podcast will cover the lethal Justinian Plague which affected the Late Antique world. I will cover the 'minimalist' view of its impact, before arguing for its significance. Finally, I discuss the relationship between the humanities and the sciences, in light of the latter being increasingly used to understand the plague.

Today, the term 'vandal' has connotations of destructiveness. However, the term originally comes from a barbarian group from Late Antiquity. This episode shall examine the Vandals and see if their poor reputation is deserved.

Introduction and The Historicity of Jordanes' Getica

In the mid sixth-century, the historian Jordanes published a history of the Goths called the Getica. However, some scholars have doubts about its accuracy. This podcast shall examine whether the Getica is mostly a literary work or whether it is factually accurate and can tell us about Gothic history.
